- <p> DIED. DAVID HOUSTON, 54, country-music singer; of a ruptured
- brain aneurysm; in Bossier City, Louisiana. In the mid-'60s,
- Houston's easy-on-the-ears tenor made him a major star, best
- remembered for Almost Persuaded, a 1966 No. 1 country hit purporting
- to be the thoughts of a married man contemplating a honky-tonk
- one-night stand. In all, 60 Houston records appeared on the
- charts, with seven reaching No. 1.
